Andhra Pradesh is rich in cultural history and her culture is embedded in various art and craft forms. The sheer grandeur and beauty of this state in all artistic domains, be it handicrafts, dance, cuisine, literature and religion, all are visions of some absolute art forms, unmatchable and invincible. Banjara Needle Crafts (Embroidery)

Banjaras are nomads and gypsies of Andhra Pradesh who showcase their lifestyle through vibrant clothes and exuberant colors. The embroidery works with the use of needle is their niche.

Kondapalli dolls


Kondapalli dolls of Andhra Pradesh are very famous among all age groups. They are so called because they are mostly produced and initially originated in a small village called Kondapalli near Vijayawada.  The dolls are warm, adorable and very expressive by faces. Soft Poniki wood is used in making these dolls. The diversity in dolls comes from variety of depictions like everyday scenes, figures of deities, animals, birds and mythological characters.

Kalamkari Paintings


If not anything else about art forms of Andhra, the Kalamkari Paintings, are always heard of from art and craft lovers. The Kalamkari craft of Andhra Pradesh blends printing and painting of fabrics. Its etymology is based on the fact that this craft uses a kalam or quill (and sometimes vegetable dyes). It is dominantly found in the Machilipatnam and Srikalahasti areas of the state.

Bidri Craft

This craft exclusively hails from the city of Hyderabad. It basically involves silver inlay on metal, which is very exquisite. The term is so named because this antique metal work art originated in the town of Bidar.

Bronze Castings

State of temples as Andhra is often referred to as, hence idol making is an art form here. The famous bronze idols are crafted based on the descriptions in verses of Shilpashastra, a holy text. These verses are called dhyana. These verses guide the makers about the physical measurements, proportions, description of the deity, characteristics, symbolism and above all, aesthetics, in step wise manner.

Kalamkari Fabrics

The Kalamkari is a fabric widely known all over the world. It’s famous for its beautiful vegetable colors used on the clothes. These clothes depict a range of mythological designs, makes good and adorable prayer carpets, tent lining cloth and table clothes, all rich in vibrant colors. This art form is exclusively found at Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

Mangalagiri Sarees

The Mangalagiri sarees and its other apparels are crafted from the famous Mangalgiri cotton. Lady tourists who flock here every day buy these vibrant sarees as Mangalagiri, located 12 Kms from Vijayawada, is also an important pilgrimage center in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Nirmal Paintings


Adding to the endless echelon of the of fascinating, vibrant and diverse art and craft forms of Andhra Pradesh, Nirmal Paintings of this state is very famous across the world in the domain of art and handicraft of the state. This brilliant traditional art form has its etymology in the Nirmal town in Adilabad district. The craftsmen who are involved with this unmatchable art form are known as Nakkash. Paintings usually showcase scenes from Hindu epics of Ramayana, Mahabharata and other historical and mythological stories. This form of art was at its heights during the Mughal rule.

Durgi Stone Craft

Durgi stone craft originated in the small township of Durgi near Macherla in Andhra Pradesh. A School of Sculpture and Stone Carving is located here which teaches the ancient skill of durgi stone craft. Some of the iconic masterpieces of this art form is found at the Nagarjunakonda museum.
